HEREFORD CATHEDRAL 23 STOP SAMPLE SET
The 23 stop sample set gives an excellent introduction to the sound of the Hereford Willis. Despite its modest stop list, the inclusion of the three swell chorus reeds, along with reeds on Great and Pedal results in a full organ sound that is surprisingly powerful. At the other end of the dynamic scale, the various stopped flutes and Swell strings give plenty of pp options. As with the larger sets, the array of couplers help no end in creating varied tone colours.
The Great Trumpet is available as a separate rank on the Choir organ - as well as the option of voicing it up to make a large solo reed, it could be made quieter and possibly a little thinner to blend with the rest of the Choir as a chorus reed.
For further details on the various features of this sample set, please see the User Manual and you will find a comprehensive selection of screenshots below.
Computer requirements are modest by today’s standards. A sensible minimum of any dual core processor with 4 GB of system RAM is suggested. Although a 64 bit operating system along with Hauptwerk Advanced Edition are recommended, good results can be expected with Hauptwerk Basic (with its 3GB sample memory limit) and even a 32 bit operating system and/or single core processor won’t necessarily impose too many restrictions. For example, on a Windows XP 32 bit laptop running the 3GB boot switch, the Hereford 23 stop set will just load at 16 bit, with all loops and lossless compression. The 3GB boot switch procedure is described in more detail on page 13 of the current (version 4) Hauptwerk user guide.
Although Hauptwerk version 3 (minimum v 3.23) is supported, Hauptwerk version 4 is highly recommended for the extra flexibility and features it offers.
The following table gives very approximate figures for the amount of RAM (memory) the organ requires with various different loading options set. None of these figures take into account the RAM needed by the operating system or Hauptwerk itself. Where no figure is given, that particular loading option (although valid) hasn't been tested, generally because it wouldn't make sense to use it.
